The Goring 10K takes place on undulating rural lanes and footpaths but there are also three or four hills. The race starts at the bottom of a hill outside Goring's Fire Station. The hill climbs from 60m to 95m and lasts about 1K. The race then uses country lanes, 1.5K of the Ridgeway through South Stoke, more country lanes to re-visit the highest point of the course about 1.5K from the end. So you then go down the 1K hill you did at the start but you run pass the start to do a few meanderings around a housing estate before finishing on a field behind the School. Tip: if you're wishing to finish fast but are tired at the end of the race, these meanderings can be a bit confusing. So the last 0.5K are worth checking out when you are warming up - if you wish to do this, have a look at the course map. A small section of the route is the same as that of the Woodcote 10K. |

"Setting out from Quakers Walk near the Kennet and Avon Canal, the route is mostly off-road, a mix of undulating and hilly terrain with breathtaking views and dominated by the climb up Roundway Hill. From there the route winds itself around the top of the hill before dropping down Heddington Steps. You will then run around the bottom of Beacon Hill and up through the gulley back to the top of Roundway Hill again, adjacent to Oliver’s Camp. From there the route will follow a short technical section through the woods before dropping down off road under the pylons and back to Quakers Walk. Once you have exited Quakers Walk there will be a short stretch of canal towpath before turning into the Sports Club where the finish is on the cricket pitch." |
